The Centre gives more than 220 children and teenagers from Ukraine a chance to continue education in accordance with their national educational programme. It is a place where young people aged from 7 to 17, divided into 11 groups, receive education in Ukrainian. The oldest students also attend classes preparing them for the Ukrainian secondary school leaving certificate, which gives them access to higher education in Poland. The classes are taught by teachers who, just like their students, are refugees. The students can also take part in extracurricular activity, among others, to learn languages or participate in cultural activities. After school they can spend time in the common room, which allows their parents to work full time.

The PCPM Foundation is the originator and manager of the Education Centre. Our role in the project is to offer mBank’s office space in the Zebra Tower. We also donated office furniture, including tables, chairs, office chairs, cabinets, thus giving them a second life. The total space of approx. 2,000 square meters houses 11 classrooms, a staff room, a rest area for students and a meeting room as well as a psychologist’s room, a speech therapist’s room and a nurse’s room. One of the rooms has been specially adapted to hold physical education classes. The Education Centre is funded by donations received by PCPM, including donations from mBank clients. So far they have donated more than PLN 14.3 million to this organisation. The funds are used by PCPM to pay all costs, which includes salaries for the teachers.

The Education Centre in the Zebra Tower is the second place of this type in Warsaw run by the PCPM Foundation in mBank’s office space. Previously, we set up the Education and Creativity Centre for Ukrainian children and their mothers in Królewska street. Every day the Centre is visited by as many as 100 people. It offers short-term childcare (up to four hours) and numerous activities for children and adults, such as Polish classes, ceramic classes, art therapy, rehabilitation, yoga and fitness classes for mothers as well as movie and board game nights for young people. The Centre also serves as a meeting place for refugees, helping them build a network of mutual support.
