Achieving our ESG objectives: PLN 1 billion for RES, reduction of plastic use and CO2 emissions, education, supporting young artists

ESG encompasses environmental, social and governance factors which should be considered by every company striving for sustainable development. The summary of our ESG activities, which form an integral part of our business strategy, is an important component of mBank’s Management Board Report for 2021.

We take care of the environment and act to prevent climate crisis.\

In 2021:

  • we spent PLN 1 billion on large-scale RES investments, to avoid 2.58 million tonnes of CO2 emissions,
  • we reduced our own CO2 emissions (in scope 1 and 2) by 40% compared to 2020,
  • we issued nearly 100,000 fully digital payment cards, saving 500 kg of plastic,
  • our private banking clients allocated 29% of their funds in ESG-aligned investment strategies,
  • we acquired EUR 500 million thanks to a pioneering green bonds issue.

We are also engaged in social matters, among others: mathematics, cybersecurity and e-commerce education, as well as support of young artists.
In 2021:

  • we spent PLN 2.35 million on mathematics education projects conducted by mFoundation,
  • together with our clients we donated around 10% of over PLN 224 million raised by the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP),
  • we launched an educational cybersecurity campaign, which reached 11.6 million people,
  • we continued the Digital Revolutions campaign to support companies in developing their e-commerce activities. The campaign’s website recorded 80 million page views,
  • we bought tens of young artists’ paintings as part of the “m for mBank’s art collection”. The artworks were presented for the first time at the “m for modern youth” exhibition at the National Art Gallery in Sopot.
